The WOK residence was a collaboration between Womens Sound (Ukraine), Oramics (Poland) and Konstmusiksystrar during Spring 2021.
During the residency, sound artists and electronic music creators met to collaborate, take part in workshops, perform and share their music and experiences with each other. WOK took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, with an associated preparatory online component that included various workshops. The digital workshops included: Introduction of the residency and all participants; Being an Artist, Supporting others and Navigating media with Octa Octa and Eris Drew; How to Build Your Artist Identity with Jeanni Ricci; How to Approach Press as An Independent Artist with Jess Partridge; How to Be Booked by a Festival with Łukasz Warna-Wiesławski and a Final Discussion between all participants.
In Kyiv, the participants took part in organised discussions on how to work as a freelance musician and composer in electronic music. The residency also included three live workshops by Athanasia Kotronia (Binaural sound), Katarzyna Kwiatkowska (Vinyl DJ Workshop), Solomiya Moroz (Incorporating sensors and Microcontrollers in a live set). The participants were given time to work in the studio, culminating in two live concerts where they presented the collaborations that they had developed during the residency. The project ended with a series of podcasts recorded by all of the participants and curators of the project.
