Zoe Efstathiou, born 1980, is a pianist, synthesist and composer from Greece living in Gothenburg. She is working with contemporary piano techniques, and electronics focusing on improvised music exploring the timbral possibilities of the piano and in relation to electronic sound. She has studied both classical and jazz piano performance and holds master in Improvisation from Högskolan för scen och musik. She is the first female instrumentalist to have studied jazz music in her country. In Greece she has performed extensively and in 2013, she was selected to perform her music at the prestigious festival Greek Jazz Panorama – New Generation as one of the most promising improvising musicians of her generation. As she developed artistically she became more interested in contemporary improvisation, experimental and electroacoustic music. In 2015 she moved to Scandinavia and became active in the Scandinavian contemporary improvisation scene. While studying master in improvisation – nordic master – she lived in Gothenburg, Oslo and Copenhagen and became involved in many different projects. She has performed – among others – at the Athens Concert Hall, A l’Arme Festival Berlin, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Nordic Råds Musikpris, Onasis Cultural Center Athens and greek national television.
